Stepping discs
Wooden discs suspended from steel cable — hop from disc to disc and keep your balance in the air. A favourite with kids.
Balance posts
Vertical timber posts on a tensioned line. Requires balance, courage and a little technique — sized to the user.
Climbing wall
Approachable timber climbing wall with rope and holds — well suited to schools, kindergartens and outdoor areas.
Net bridge
Suspended netting between platforms — fun for small kids and a real workout for the older ones.

Haughom Klatreløyper builds wooden climbing parks and obstacle courses, adapted to the place they stand. We work with solid materials, proper anchor points and simple, robust solutions that handle Norwegian weather and hard use from eager kids.
Every course is unique. We visit the site, plan together with you, and build something that works as both a play space and a natural part of the landscape.

Robust courses that handle daily wear and suit recess, after-school programmes and outdoor learning. We help apply for funding from Norwegian schemes (Spillemidler, Sparebankstiftelsen, Gjensidigestiftelsen).
Municipalities and housing associations
Shared outdoor areas built to last. Full documentation for public procurement — declaration of conformity, risk assessment and maintenance plan are included on handover.
Hotels, farm tourism and the visitor sector
A climbing course as a destination in itself — gets guests outdoors, keeps kids busy, and fits naturally into Northern Norwegian landscapes.

Rope swing
Thick manila rope hung from a high anchor — short run-up, then a swing across an open zone. Easy to use and needs little space.
Zipline
Steel cable strung between sturdy posts or trees. We build ziplines from short, gentle rides to long, fast lines for older kids.
Wooden ramp
Sloped timber boardwalk with rope handrails — a natural entry into the course from ground level up to the first platform.
Tree platform
Round pine platform built around the trunk itself. Platforms tie the course together and act as resting points between obstacles.
Climbing wall
Approachable timber climbing wall with vertical pine posts and coloured holds. Safe and steady — well suited to schools and kindergartens.
Diagonal balance poles
Leaning timber posts on a tensioned line, with a steel cable overhead as handhold. Requires balance and a bit of nerve — sized to the user.
Stepping discs
Round wooden discs hung on rope from a load-bearing cable. You hop from disc to disc, keeping balance in the air. A clear favourite with kids.
Balance log
Long peeled-pine log suspended horizontally between platforms. Classic balance work with just enough wobble in the surface.
Suspension bridge
Timber planks threaded on dual cables, with rope or wire as handrails. Sags a little in the middle — makes it much more fun to cross.
Cargo net
Large synthetic net stretched in a timber frame. Crawl or step across — fun for small kids, a real workout for older ones.
Star spinner
Crossed timber beams pivoting around a vertical post. You balance while the star slowly spins — focus required.
Zipline

Built for the Northern Norwegian climate
We choose materials based on where it stands, what it has to take, and how long it should last. No unnecessary shortcuts.
Pressure-treated pine and larch
Main structure in Nordic pine and larch. Class AB pressure-treated where it meets the ground, untreated where it doesn't need it. Weathers to a natural silver-grey.
Galvanised cable and stainless hardware
Steel cable, shackles and eye bolts in hot-dip galvanised or stainless steel. Specified for Norwegian weather — salt air, frost and moisture.
Manila rope and polyamide netting
Natural rope where it looks best, stronger synthetic ropes and nets where wear demands it. All anchor points are dimensioned with healthy safety margin.
Local and sustainable
We source timber in Northern Norway where we can, and dimension for long life over low material cost. Less transport, less waste, more wood that stays standing.

Trust that is documented, not just promised
Climbing courses in Norway are regulated by the Forskrift om sikkerhet ved lekeplassutstyr and built to European standards. We deliver a full documentation package on handover — everything you need for public procurement, internal control and ongoing inspection is in place.

We build to the European standards for playground equipment and impact-absorbing surfaces — including Part 6 (climbing equipment) and Part 11 (spatial networks).

Declaration of conformity
Every course is handed over with a written declaration of conformity, documenting compliance with the Norwegian Forskrift om sikkerhet ved lekeplassutstyr.

User manual and maintenance plan
In Norwegian, with clear routines for daily checks, quarterly inspection and annual main inspection. Owners get everything they need to keep the course safe over time.

Fall surfaces and safety zones
We calculate fall heights and dimension fall surfaces (woodchip, sand or grass) per NS-EN 1177. Safety zones around each element are marked on drawings.

Risk assessment
Each course is delivered with a documented risk assessment. We review it with you before construction starts, and update it if anything changes.

Recommended annual main inspection
We recommend a certified third-party inspector (e.g. Lekeplasskontrollen) for the annual main inspection. We can refer you and help with follow-up.

Geir Arne Haughom
Haughom Klatreløyper is run by Geir Arne Haughom from Alsvåg in Vesterålen. He worked as a Norwegian camp-school teacher (leirskolelærer) for many years, and over his career designed and built climbing and obstacle courses at a number of camp schools across the country.
That's how he learned what actually works in practice — what children use, what holds up to hard daily wear, and what survives Norwegian weather. After he built a course for his own camp school, more orders came in — including from Tonstadli in Sirdal and Furutangen Leirsted in Hjelmeland. Today he builds climbing courses full-time, by hand, on site — with an eye for both craft and how children play.

What people ask
How long from first contact to finished course?
Typically 6–12 weeks, depending on size and season. Site visit and design takes 1–3 weeks, construction 1–4 weeks. We avoid starting in the worst of the winter.
What maintenance is required?
Daily visual checks (by the owner), quarterly functional inspection, and an annual main inspection by a certified third party. Ropes, cable and timber have an expected life of 10–25 years depending on exposure — the maintenance plan is included on handover.
Do the courses handle Norwegian winters?
Yes. We choose timber, hardware and rope dimensioned for the weather and temperature swings in Northern Norway. Snow load and ice are factored into the construction, and we advise on winter closure of any specific elements.
Do we need a building permit?
Usually not for simple climbing courses on private or institutional ground, but it varies by municipality. We help clarify with the kommune before we start building.
Which age groups is it for?
We design for the target group. Smaller stepping discs and low balance beams suit ages 3+, full-scale obstacle courses 8–10+. We often combine elements for different ages within the same course.
How far do you travel?
We are based in Alsvåg in Vesterålen and cover all of Northern Norway. We can travel further for larger projects — get in touch and we will work it out.
What is the expected lifespan?
A course built in quality timber with proper maintenance lasts 15–25 years. Rope and wear parts are replaced along the way. We build so that parts can be replaced without dismantling the whole course.
What does it cost?
Entirely dependent on size and terrain. Smaller courses for a garden or cabin start around NOK 25,000. A typical school or kindergarten course lands between NOK 80,000 and 250,000. Larger projects for tourism or municipal sites are priced individually. Site visit and first quote are always non-binding.
